Hi! My usually very active red sex link hen, Lucy, has been acting very odd these past couple of weeks. I am thinking maybe impacted crop?

I felt her crop this morning, and it wasn't empty, it felt kinda squishy. She does NOT want to eat, but is drinking a lot. She is very lethargic, and just sits around all day. In the evening she won't even come to the coop.

Does this sound like an impacted crop? Please help ASAP! :fl

Doesn't sound like she is fine to me. Provide her with wet feed only and see that she has plenty of water and a source of poultry grit (crushed granite). If need be, separate her to a kennel inside the run. She doesn't need to eat anything like grains/scratch at this time until you get the crop cleared.
Any odor to her breath? There are several types of crop issues - slow, impacted, doughy, sour, etc. Any of these can be a symptom of an underlying condition like worms, coccidiosis overload, infection or internal laying/reproductive disorders. Having a fecal float for worms and coccidiosis would be a good idea along with giving her a once over for any bloat or feeling of fluid in the abdomen (has she been laying eggs?).

Here's one of the best articles that details crop issues and how to treat them:http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/impacted-slow-and-sour-crops-prevention-and-treatments

Keep us posted.

The doughy crop recipe, I have a hen with a doughy crop, I don't have ginger powder. Would fresh ginger work?

@Chixlittel I don't know if the fresh ginger would work or not, I would assume it would need to be crushed to extract juices - if I remember correctly ginger if fibrous(?) so you don't want to add anything to the crop that would slow it further - you could still try the recipe without ginger to see if there is improvement. Ginger powders can be found in the spice section of grocery stores. Hope that helps.

Unfortunately, she passed this morning :(

@RodNTN I'm very sorry to hear you lost her.
