I think my rir has an impacted crop. I noticed she was standing off by herself for the last couple of days, not going after the scratch I brought out. I picked her up and noticed her chest was very big where the crop is and soft. I checked the other chickens and even though their crops were protruding some it seemed hard to the touch.

I've been reading on the site about this and I'm thinking I should bring her inside, massage the crop and feed her bread soaked olive oil and put apple cider vineger in her water. I'll pick up some plain yogurt as well.

If anyone has any suggestions that might help I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Hi Lynne,

Thank you so much for your response. I just went out to the coop and got some olive oil in her w/ a syringe and a left a quart of water w/ a table spoon of acv. It's late and they were all in on their roost so I left her out there w/ the others.

She still has plenty of spunk as she resisted some when I tried to give her the oil but she pecked at it like she does w/ anything that comes close to her beak and she took some in w/o to much trouble.

I've massaged her crop 3 times now and it is big and soft like it is filled w/ a liquid or a gel. Her comb has started to flop slightly to one side.

I think tomorrow I may bring her inside, work on her some more and observe.

Thanks again,
