MissPrissy, I used your regime last time my cochin hen had an impacted crop and she recovered fine. The goofy little soul has stuffed herself on something like shavings again( ! ) and it seems impacted again. I have a feeling it has been at least a few days... I wanted to just check if I have the following straight.... give her a 1/4 teaspoon of ACV to start with, 'starve' her for about 12 hours with only ACV water to drink, isolate in a warm crate with no bedding, massage crop regularly right away?, give olive oil soaked bread until I notice the crop getting smaller and then gradually start giving stuff like yoghurt, cooked rice etc.... Does this sound about right? Thank you so much for your time

I tried to massage her crop but it is so hard I am afraid I am going to hurt her if I press too hard! Should I give her olive oil bread so as to try and get some lubrication in there? She seems 'fine' otherwise, curious and comb is red.... Last time she ate a bunch of straw so I made sure there isn't any around. Now she seems to have eaten the shavings. Is there anything to put her on that will not bung her up or is she just going to keep doing this?

OK, it is 5 days since I put Sonnet into the dog crate and have been trying to clear her crop. She seems very uncomfortable in that she is sitting with her wings slightly spread and she keeps on bobbing her head, as if she is wanting to clear her crop. We have been giving her water with acv and bread soaked in olive oil. Her crop is a lot smaller and a lot softer but I wasn't seeing poops. She is a bantam cochin with LOTS of fluff around her vent and we realised that the poop was getting 'hung up' in the fluff. So last night DH clipped the feathers back and we'll see now what she is doing poop wise. I am concerned as she is not particularly interested in eating or drinking. We are giving her the water with a syringe but the last couple of days I couldn't get her to eat more than one or two bites. How big is the opening from the crop into the next stage of digestion? I can feel a hard lump in her crop that is not breaking down and I am afraid to massage it too vigorously in case it contains something sharp that could damage her crop. It is not very big.... guessing a little less than an inch around - hard to tell for sure because of all the goop still not quite cleared out. Her crop has gone from being rock hard and the size of my fist to much softer and maybe a little less than half of the size of my fist.
