I have a hen who I've been having trouble with. I posted about her lately. She was broody, seemed to molt for a while. Is absolutely terrified of our rooster. But now she is jerking her neck while eating at times. Her crop is not enlarged but seems hard. She will jerk her neck and then shake her head and a little liquid comes out. She seems thin although I first thought it was from molting....I plan on getting her out tomorrow morning and try to help her. What are my options? Thanks guys. Sorry for so many posts about the same hen....

I have seen my broody hens have a puffy slow to empty crop. Once they develop an impacted or sour crop, it can be hard to cure it. Some common reproductive diseases can cause pressure in the abdomen which may lead to a slowdown in overall digestion or blockages in the gizzard or crop. Most of us cannot see a vet who knows chickens, but if you do, that would be helpful. Here are a couple of good articles about crop problems and how some deal with them:

Thank you so much. She's been acting weird for a few days and is not very social anyway. It's hard to catch her and check her out. I'll check her crop first thing in the morning to be sure.

I always have to wait until my chickens go to roost in the evening, to pick them up and handle them, to check crops, or to medicate or treat them. I wear a headlamp and use the red light which doesn’t startle them.
Thanks. I'll try that. I'm gointk try to wait until the roo is out in the morning she always stay in for a while after he leaves. I'll grab her out before she gets down....poor thing. I pray i can help her
