I took my young hen to the vet yesterday for help with an impacted crop. She was lavaged with warm water and mineral oil. Three hours after I brought her home, she passed away. I opened the crop with a scalpel to see what was in there. There was some food remnants and blood. Is it possible that the vet squeezed her crop too hard? She was such a sweet chicken and her loss greatly saddens me.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :hugs
I don't think squeezing the crop would cause it to bleed, unless she ate something sharp and that cut her up or something.

Was the vet an Avian vet? I know a lot of vets won't treat poultry or haven't the knowledge..I personally think it is possible. I hear Avian vets make really good money. Poultry for some reason I think are still considered exotic on some levels. And bringing poultry to the vet is a newer trend..
