Anyone here has any experience of importing chicks (little chicken

) or eggs through airplane. I'm in Pakistan and was looking forward to keep Sex-links or Australorps.

I know nothing about importing till now. If anyone had any experience of importing chicks to any country, please share your experience and the procedure. Thankyou!

I would imagine if you import from UK or U.S then they could be damaged so much thru the handling then they probably wont hatch. I doubt any courier will be careful enough. I have no experience in importing, but I thought I'd just say that. Why do you want to import?

I have kept chicken breeds available in Pakistan, which are not many, so I wanted to try some new breeds. Basically I want to keep chicken for their eggs, I found Sex-links & Australorps to be good layers with good egg size so I was interested in them.

You are in Pakistan and want to bring birds into Pakistan? Do I understand that correctly?

You will have to contact whatever agency handles agriculture in Pakistan. They will tell you what the rules are. There are no rules concerning chickens leaving the USA. Nobody cares because they are leaving. It is coming into the new country where they will have to meet conditions.

Birds travel just fine. You get the seller to deliver them to the airport in a proper crate and they should be in Pakistan in no more than 12-14 hours. Most airlines will carry day old chicks, which weigh very little and fit into a small box, so shipping wouldn't be horrendous. the shipping time would be OK for day old chicks.

As to what health papers and if there is a quarantine, you will have to get that information from the government of Pakistan.

Also, call the airlines and check, but I suspect shipping would be a lot less from Britain than from the USA. Hmmm, unless maybe you ship from Seattle or Los Angeles and the plane heads west across the Pacific.

Also, regulations will probably vary depending on the country of origin. So that is something to consider, too. If it is easier for one country, then look there for birds.

I am actually a former USDA veterinarian, and I looked up what the US agriculture department has received from the Pakistani government regarding importation. It doesn't say anything about poultry specifically, but you can read it here

You might be able to import them classified as birds versus livestock.

I used to handle exportation of livestock constantly, and we used FedEx.

Good luck!

Thank you all!
I ended up buying local chicken from here, I will post the pics so you tell what breed they are called 'internationally'. May be mixed cross of many breeds overtime. Thanks again.
