Ok, I have a broody hen who has been incubating a single egg for 20 days now. It is going to hatch any day now, literally.
However!
I just acquired four 4 day old chicks today as a "gift".
I have no where to put them as my brooders are all full, I tried putting them in with my week and a half old chicks but they bullied them and pushed them out of the brooder.
I cant give them back either, thats not an option.
In a panicked rush I put them under my broody hen.
She has not rejected them, and actually she is cooing at them and moving them with her egg.
Will this effect the egg she is already hatching?
I literally have no where else to put these chicks so i am very worried. Setting up another brooder is not possible as I didn't have another one, nor do I have the room :(
I have two options.
1.) Put the egg into my incubator and hatch it out there, then slip it under the hen after its hatched with the others.
or.
2.) let it hatch out since its almost ready to go, under then hen with the others, and hope for the best.

Leave the chicks with her and Leave her alone. The hen knows if her egg is good and as long as she knows it's alive she will set on it.

Oh thank goodness, so you don't think anything bad will happen; she wont move?

She will stay several days
.If you want put the egg in the incubator ,make sure your Humidity is high enough to hatch and then as soon as it drys put it back with her. Either way will likely work. I put some directly from the incubator , a couple at a time, while my Hen was hatching her own !
She just kinda looked at me "where you finding these chicks?"

Alright I can do that if I have to.
My poor hen just puffed up in suprise and then accepted them lol.
