I tried to give my chick an injection of penicillin in the right breasts this morning. I don't feel that I went very deep, just under the skin. However when I put him down he was unable to stand, kinda flopped around a bit, and layed his head down, breathing heavily.

I also noticed that most of the injection squirted back out of the needle hole. I had to leave for work, so I imagine he's probably dead now. What did I do wrong?

He didn't die, but he still has the same heavy breathing problem and crackling sound in his chest. He eventually started walking around again, but is still slowly deteriorating.

The first shot of penicillin doesn't seem to have helped.

The flopping around was probably due to lack of oxygen from stress or being held too tight, and he got over that. However, his original problem seems pretty serious. Did you try antibiotics in his water? Make sure he is kept extra warm, hydrated, and gets electrolytes.

Best of luck!

Yes. I've tried Tylan in his water as well as Tylan injectables down the throat. Neither worked. I ordered some Baytril in case it's E.coli. I'm going to try that next.
