In a funk about the skunks!

Oh ok! Inbred cats! Iv'e seen those, the people who had them were calling them "cabbits" but in truth they were just really inbred.:hmm
They are scary feral cats! You know with disfigured facial features. Last year trapped one that was sleeping in one of my hawk hideouts had a injured leg was a mess.
This guy looks like one of his sons...if I can I’ll post a picture.

I’ve got a stray cat... no wait a ferel cat ....no a phantom cat... that was here when we moved back after this old place sat empty for a year plus...

I saw it in the early light of morning right after moving in... then only on game cameras after that... until after almost 2 years I caught him/her/it a few weeks ago in a cage type trap....

Pure black, longish hair, bushy tail, and as pissed off as any bobcat I’ve ever trapped....

I have a soft spot for bob tail barn cats... and old lazy porch cats that lay at your feet and accept a toe scratch.... all others though I don’t have much use for....

But this cat...even though it doesn’t belong here, even though I think it is sorta ugly, even though I know it eats song birds, and baby cottontails, and probably those cute little chipmunks....

even with all of that I turned it out, and wished it luck.... after all there are mice to be dealt with!

I found tracks in the snow the other morning, coming up to the cleared sidewalk, onto the porch... and then it went down into the snow across the yard, toward the birdbath.... and off hunting through the barn...

And I said ‘good to see you phantom cat’... thanks for not being a SKUNK!!!!

That is a really lovely story @OhZark Biddies. I'm a little envious, the only feral cat here dosent hunt a darn thing it eats chicken crumble with the girls.
They don't bother it and it dosent bother them.
Cat has never laid a thing despite being full up on layer. :D

You can try putting a motion sensor light on your porch. I was told by the wildlife folks here that they don't like bright light and they'll leave. Of course if it's still daylight, that won't help much. Maybe carry a small but bright flashlight and aim it for his eyes?

I wish that worked, my yard is lit up like the fouth of July at night and they still come and dig for bugs.
I think it just makes it easier for them to see.
I did speak with a game warden day before yesterday and he wasn't helpful. He said baby skunks aren't much diffrent than cats and for me to not feed it or i'd end up keeping it.
Needless to say my plans are absolutely ruined now.:)

I've never had to deal personally with a skunk problem, however, quite a few that have, say there is an easy fix. Get the chocolate ex-lax type laxative. Put it out where you know the skunk will be, and let it eat it. The laxative does not kill them, but causes them to mess up their "home", so they move away from the area.

Wow, it might work but what a dirty trick. Talk about chemical warfare.:gig
