I have a small mixed flock with no Roo.

White Leghorn, Isa Brown, Buff Orpington and a Silver Laced Wyandotte

I will soon be adding an EE & a Speckled Sussex.

Right now my White Leg Horn is the Alpha and the Silver Laced Wyandotte is at the bottom of the flock. I'm sure when the newbies are introduced things will be shaken up at the bottom.

So I was wondering in your mixed flocks which breeds are your Alpha Hens and who is at the bottom of the flock?

My black sex link is the boss lady, even above my roo and even though my youngsters have outgrown her. She's quite a pill!

My one and only EE is way way way at the bottom.

Mine is still based on age, really. Our 10 week BO is on top of the 6-7 week old Silkies (four of them); and then in a separate brooder is an EE, a Polish, and a Silkie all at 2-3 weeks old. The Polsih and EE seem to be in charge of the Silkie. We'll see what happens when they all are more grown.

Boss is the Black Sex link... and the one I had before her was also the boss.. I guess BSL are take charge kinda chickens.

My RIR Penny is the head hen..
She even takes on my roos when they need to be put in their place! Shes just like her mommy..

We've been doing a little bit of flock management and originally the RIR and the ameracauna where the BBB - Big baby grump...but we kept them separate for a week and then our blue wyandotte starting pecking everyone, so we've isolated her now, and the whole flock is very very happy no pecking at all. We plan to let the blue wyandotte out in a week. It should take her down a few notches.
