After several weeks building and preparing a coop and run we finally went out last weekend and came home with three new chickens. A Rhode Island Red, a Buff Orpington and a Black Australorp. They are doing well so far!

Welcome to BYC! Those are excellent breeds to start with. All three are very hardy and good layers (especially the Australorp), and the Buff Orpington and Black Australorp are very calm and gentle breeds. Good luck with your new flock.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Here here....down here in the south central mountains of New Mexico!!! Good to see another New Mexican on board here!

You have picked some nice breeds! Very friendly, docile and hardy in our climate.

You might want to chat with others in our great state of NM. Lots of members up in the east mountains...

Enjoy your new birds and we welcome you to our flock!

Good luck with your poultry raising adventures, and I hope you find everything you need to know. Don't forget to take a look at BYC's very useful learning center (If you haven't already)! The learning center as well as the forum should answer your questions! There is always something new to learn! Glad to have you here! See you around with the flock.
