Hi guys! I'm a newbie, but have done a bunch of research and just got 16 baby chicks a few days ago. They're doing great. But I'm realizing they're growing faster than I thought, and want to get them in a place where they'll have more room. We have a huge amazing coop outside, but what about the in-between months when they're not ready for the coop outside, but no longer baby chicks? I was thinking of getting maybe a kiddie pool for the garage, and putting some fencing around it? Then a top? Then I was thinking I have a metal gate that could be made into a large circle, and just reinforce the sides with towels or cardboard to keep the heat in? But thought I'd ask the experts here if there was an inexpensive way to give them more space while they're still inside? Excited and open to all suggestions. Thank you in advance! :)

Chicks can be brooded in the coop from day one provided they are given a brooder plate under which to get warm and are protected from drafts.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Another idea if you're making a brooder in the coop is when they get a little older, make a door in the pen they can get out, but big chickens can't get in. Then put lots of clutter around the coop so they can run out and hide if chased. Ideas are like pallets leaning against the walls, wooden boxes on their side, etc.

We're glad you're here!
