In case you havent heard about this yet

Did you watch the interview with the police chief ?
Was the chief one of the two involved? If not then his thoughts are no more relivent than yours or mine. I would like to hear a better video so I can tell what is said though. That is what really matters.

He was fishing though, no question. But he is not very good at it.

Here is someone much better at fishing. Real funny too.

The 2 police on the sidewalk were backing up the police that were taking down the house. So they were busy until the house was cleared, as soon as they were released from that they went to get the guy. The cop didn't put his hand in the dogs mouth, he was trying to retrieve what on of the other police dropped. I cant tell from the video if it was a radio or a hand held zapper, but it was dropped by one of the officers that arrested the dog owner, or he was trying to get the dogs leash.
What really I don't get is you want the police to shoot any dog running at them.
Now if it was one of those little yappy dogs then he would have just kicked the dog away, if he would have shot one of those then I could see some outrage. But that dog I wouldn't take the chance.
Next time you come across a police scene like that just roll up and blare your radio and start yelling at the police, you don't need a dog. Let us know how that works out for you.

Couldn't get your video
But the chiefs interview gives a prospective of why the guy was being arrested. And the policy of the department.
I don't know if it matters what all he was saying, just that his music and yelling was an interference with the police. If he had been reading from the bible he would have still been arrested. The one part I could hear was him yelling why there were no black police there.

Again, not saying the man was charged cause of videoing but because the issue is being talked about on here. Here is a link worth reading that is wrote by a Ga LEO an a Ga elected Sheriff is who showed it to me. http://chiefweems.wordpress.com/2013/07/08/recording-police-activity-and-identification-issues/

I totally agree that anyone can video anything in public.
I wish the guy with the dog would post his video that he took with the audio. I think I know the reason he hasn't.

Hemet is right, if it had been a small dog, it probably would not have been shot, but because this was a large black dog, it is likely that the police officer associated it more negatively and therefore interpreted it's actions as more dangerous. This is a common phenomenon known as "big black dog" syndrome, and it is the reason why large black dogs are the least likely to be adopted from animal shelters. I used to own a large black mastiff and people would cross the street to avoid having to pass me and my dog on the sidewalk. Eventually I resorted to dressing her in festive leashes and collars, scarves and painting her toenails to match because I was concerned for her safety, as people had fearful, negative and even hostile attitudes towards her, pretty much just in reaction to her appearance. My point is, whether they realize it or not, the cops probably overreacted because they situation was heightened and large black dogs carry more psychological associations that are negative. Another example if that is snakes, people are often terrified of snakes, even though in reality they are unlikely to be harmed by one. Even knowing that intellectually, many people will still kill every snake they see, even helpful garden snakes because they have such a negative belief/association for snakes. So basically you have a situation that "loaded the gun" so to speak, and then you have certain attitudes and prejudices which created the response.

THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY, MR. LEON ROSBY WAS RECORDING THE POLICE, THEY ARREST HIM AND SHOT HIS DOG [WARNING-EXTREMELY DISTURBING VIDEO OF INCIDENT]:
PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE PETITIONS: 1) Hawthorne Police Department: Investigate, impose sanctions, and issue apology for the shooting of Mr. Leon Rosby's dog http://www.change.org/petitions/haw...ology-for-the-shooting-of-mr-leon-rosby-s-dog 2)Hawthorne Police Department Kill Harmless Dog http://www.thepetitionsite.com/501/149/932/hawthorne-police-department-kill-harmless-dog/
I watched the video until the point of the dog jumping out and charging police--I didn't want to watch further because I don't like to see any animals killed. But I will say that it was a judgment call for all parties involved. The owner of the dog could have stayed in his vehicle instead of pacing back and forth and therefore getting himself involved. To me the cops made a call that the dog was dangerous and pursuing them and decided to act to protect themselves. I also think it's ridiculous that the one headline says "Harmless Dog"---talk about sensationalizing it.

It annoys me that ever since this happened, there have been videos of police shooting dogs all over the internet and the general reaction of people is outrage. Yet, it's rare from the videos posted that anyone sees the full stories. There are plenty of reasons animals are put down by police. It's not always because police are "trigger happy". It also makes me sad to see so many people with such disrespect for people who put their lives on the line to save others. There are bad cops out there (Like there are bad people in every job) but that doesn't mean all should be judged by the actions of a few.

Personally i think that both the parties are at fault, the owner for not staying out of police business, and the cop for, in my opinion, overreacting. But when you get to the end of it, the cop took an animals life when he did not have to. I have an uncle that is a retired police officer, and he had many run-ins with dogs, if a dog came at him, he would kick/ knee the dog in the chest, the dogs always left him alone after that. And lots of cops overreact when it comes to breeds such a rottis or pits, my uncle got a call about 'a dangerous pit bull' and when he got to the scene it was a 9 month old stray, he adopted that dog, put him through training, and that dog was his police dog for 12 years. I know most cops are good, but some get trigger happy and just shoot because they can and because its the easiest why to get rid of something.

This thread is good in respect to the mixed emotions and opinions on it

there was reason why the actions where justified and reason why they where not

now deviating a little The Story of Winston

watch this video and ask your self why was this allowed to continue

I think there where 4 police cars present there

not one officer took armed action and played cat and mouse

infact the DOG was sentenced to 2 years prohibition and an order to attend obedience school that's it

now watch the video (no dogs or humans were harmed and its not violent so don't worry)

and ask your self was this not a case of shoot the dog and if it was not the case then why shoot the coloured guys dog

in this video aswell the dog is feral so all the more reason to shoot it it was not protecting its owner or anything it was just plain attacking

(btw I found this video on YouTube but came to know of it from a program called when animals attack and that has a better insight and explanation of the situation and also the aftermath and what happened to the DOG afterwards, I could not find a clipping of the program but if I do I will upload it)

All I will say is the dog died of natural causes a year later
