In Colorado, Rain Barrels Are Illegal......What????

I read about this some time back and couldn't believe it. So, if a state has this law and the people live in a flood plain, who do they sue? Sounds as logical as this silly law. Sounds as silly as "carbon footprint," which IMO is an excuse to either be an "Al Gore" who owns multiple homes, a wealthy Hollywood celebrity, etc. or a way to make gobs of money. Both examples are like the "Emperor's Clothes."

As with most gov't "contracts", it's all one-sided. As you are aware, it's illegal to have a one-sided contract, but, hey, it's our beloved gov't, right? Property rights are in danger with that one, especially since most collect rainwater to send it back into the ground when they water their gardens. So, yep, it's just borrowing the water, if you buy that someone else actually owns it. The rain comes from clouds that pass over several states, so when they are over my place, what falls from them is mine. We could go on all day about this stuff, but I never just accept something because the gov't says it's so or issues an edict. Just me, the rebel. And here is me-----> glad I no longer live in Colorado.

Really!

That law is ridiculous IMO. I would think that they would encourage this kind of thing instead of make it illegal.

Catching rainwater is illegal -- whats next...the air we breathe? I sometimes wonder how such nonsense makes it into office to create such laws.

Did I not tell you people this a few weeks ago!

You thought I was kidding right? I work for the Dept of Public Health and Environment. You do not own your water.

We are having a big bru-hah-ha over the EPA's Waters of the US proposal.

Edit to add that Countryside Magazine has a big feature article on this issue this month.

Well, then, if I don't own my water, all wells are illegal, period. And we know that isn't true, so yep, I do own my water. When anyone decides to regulate my water, they can also maintain and/or replace my well pump and the accompanying pipes and tank that go with it. I'll send the EPA the bill.

Geez, guess I am a law-breaker.

We just paid big bucks for a new motor for our well; where do I send the bill?

There is beginning to be discussions in Idaho that the above is not true. We may pay for dilling the well and maintaining the equipment involved to pump the water but the water is not ours.

There's been discussion that at some point meters will be installed and we'll "pay" for the water we pump out of the aquifer.
