Already raining and the wind has been bad all day, but the weather people are saying it is going to get worse. We don't usually loose power and if we do it only last about an hour, what should I do with the bator running?

We are on day 2 for six of our eggs and day 1 for 13 of our eggs. Just hoping that the storm is not going to be as bad as they are saying.

i hope its not! i might be new at the chicken game because my last 6 all got eatin but i think if its only a hour it will be fine. me hens would get of the eggs for a good while (never timed them) but they always came back to sit on them instead of the 3 empty nest we had next to them.

I lost power on day 9 with 20 in the bator. I was frantic. I don't have any experience since this is my first hatch, but everyone said that they thought the chicks would be fine as long as the temp isn't too low for too long... hopefully you won't have to worry about it!!!

You might prepare ahead of time by having a blanket or quilt near the incubator so you can wrap it up when you do lose power. During my last hatch we lost the power for over 5 hours and I didn't lose any chicks, but they did hatch a little later than normal.

Good luck on your hatch!

My power was out for 6 hours this morning, on for an hour and then out again for another 2 hours this afternoon. I was VERY thankful that my incubator isn't getting filled until next week!!!!!!!! (And I actually have a back up power supply for it in case of a problem.)

Thanks everyone. We have some thunder and lightening right now, but so far so good. I have a blanket (quilt) that I hang in the doorway of my kitchen and one that is in the doorway of my dining room, one of those could come down really quick if needed.
