I have 2 cats and a chihuahua my husband brought home as a stray 3 weeks ago. About a week ago or so, something crawled under my bathroom door (its a trailer and the doors have like a 3 inch crack. Have since been stuffing towels under door) and killed all 9 of my chicks. No bodies or nothing. This morning I wake up and feed the inside birds and then go outside to play with my outside birds, only to come into a massacre. Bodies were left this time cause someone didn't have as much time to eat. One lone tophat clinging to life. I think its the dog and my husband thinks its the orange cat. He doesn't want to get rid of the dog cause he just knows it was that mean cat. Anyone else have experience with chihuahua problems? He just doesn't think a chihuahua could do that. I had no problems with this until a week ago.

I have 4 chihuahuas...2 that could care less that there are chickens around...1 that loves the occasional delicious "chicken poop snack," and 1 that reminds me of Henery the Chicken Hawk from the Foghorn Leghorn cartoon. "Let me at 'em, let me at 'em!" But he has never tried to eat one...just loves to chase them around and aggrivate them. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Maybe somemore chi owners will weigh in.

One of my chihuahuas (I have four) killed a barred rock chick a couple of years back. Once he found out how much trouble he got into for bothering the chicks, he has never gone near one since.

Lost the last tophat

I am so sure that it was the dog that I am ready to get rid of her today. The cat is gone regardless, just have to figure out what to do with it. And I havent ever actually seen the dog do it. And since I cannot catch her in action I dont feel I can punish her in any way because I dont think she would know what I was punishing her for.

In this whole ordeal I have lost 5 blue and black copper marans, 7 tophats, 2 white silkies, and 5 cochins. It just makes me sick to my stomach.

No. I left the chicks, all 13 of them in the box hoping my husband would take care of them. I get out of the shower to find Spaz chewing on a carcass. I chased her to retreive what was left of my favorite tophat (took a pic and emailed it to his blackberry) to only find 5.5 chicks in the box. He was so sure this small little angel just couldn't eat that many chicks. She is on craigslist tonight.

That's horrible. Who left the box of chicks where the dog could get to them?

If the dog was able to go out and kill your chicks, wouldn't another preditor have the same access to do the same?

Do your best to protect the ones you have left from all preditors as best you can.

The chicks were in the house.

In the bathroom with the door shut. The dog crawled under and jumped right in.
