In Memory of Sidney-Spread the Word

That was already in my plans, Blue. I'm looking at next April now and haven't yet decided on what type of tree it will be. I'd like for it to be fast growing so I'm thinking something in the line of a red maple or an evergreen. You know how Missouri Springs go.

A red maple would be gorgeous! Thanks for the suggestion. We just took out a huge, very old oak from in front of our dining room window and I was wondering what to plant in its place. Thought of a silver leaf maple, but I like the idea of a red leaf better, thanks!

OMG @cassie that just totally sux!

We started to feel like we knew about half the staff at the small animal hospital at MIZZOU. Geeze, every time the phone rang we were talking to a different doctor that was laying out test plans and what they would have to do if Sid went to surgery.

They were all so nice and considerate to our feelings.

Thank you for sharing about this issue, best wishes and thoughts from another Heeler family
Thank you Homesteader.

Aren't Heelers amazing dogs? Smart, stubborn, funny, infuriating, and that is there good points, LOL.

Yesterday, One of Sid's brothers, Diesel wanted to go for a run. He literally looked around the corner to see his brother standing in the doggy door half in and half out of the house, jumped against the inside door and slammed it in his face.

I guess he made it clear who he wanted NOT to go for a run with him!

So what do you have Reds or Blues?

Thank you so much for the kind words, Blue. It's been 5 weeks today since we lost our Sidney. We miss her terribly but her brothers and sissy have been tremendous comforts for us.

We also finished filling in the lagoon which we feel was the source of the infestation that made her sick and killed her. It still amazes us that something so benign as a 'swimming hole' could be so deadly and we will never know why she was infected with this horrible disease and so far her siblings are fine.

But we are glad they are.

My sympathy to your friend, @Alyssa-Bee. And please do. About the only way you will be able to know what is going on is with a necropsy at this point in time. They didn't know for certain what was wrong with our Sid until they did an MRI on her and found the growths.

Pythiosis or Swamp Cancer is prevalent around the coastal areas but they are finding it is moving North more and more. I had never heard of it before but the second vet we took her to had heard of it although at that point in time everyone thought she had swallowed something and had an obstruction.

It's very insidious and usually by the time symptoms are being shown it is too late. I read of a few that survived but only after drastic surgeries and then it is an ongoing struggle to keep the infection at bay and get the dog to gain and maintain weight.
