My husband and I had our first date at a local restaurant and it's our favorite. Quite literally we go there if not every month every other month. They do a burger of the month thing and lately they've been kinda phoning it in on it. We were looking forward to this month because it's Easter and they always do a lamb burger. We've been going to this place for 11 years...always a lamb burger in the moth of Easter. I checked their Facebook and to my horror it was a Chicago dog burger. Even worse they now offer impossible burgers and black bean burgers. I get it people like vegan options...but this is a burger place. I feel like they're trying to appeal to tourists from Chicago instead of their regular clientele. I'm worried that our favorite restaurant is going to become our least favorite because of this. I thought about writing the owner but idk what to do. It's really hard to find a good place to eat out and since we don't do so very often we usually go to the same old place everytime. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there that has had this happen. In my experience with restaurants is once they start trying to accommodate to tourists instead of regulars by changing the menu they go out of business

I've been in food service for a long time and I can tell you that good help is harder than ever to find. I think you're right that once a place starts diversifying too much it loses it's appeal but if they've been doing a lamb burger for 11 years they're probably just trying something new. Generally a place like that won't make a lot of money on black bean burgers because there are plenty of vegan/vegetarian places that do it better. Its best to say something albeit politely. Not to the server, maybe not to the front of the house at all, but asking to speak to the owner is your best bet. They're the ones invested in their clientele. I would just call and ask to talk to him when its not lunch or dinner time.

The owners wife owns a business right next store and she's always there. But I think she's the one putting these things in his head. They've done the Chicago dog burger before so they're not trying something new. We're probably going to eat there for my birthday and I do at least plan to explain my discontent that the lamb burger isn't on the menu. The first time I've had it...I did something I've never done before at a restaurant...I asked to see the chef. I wanted to thank him in person for the most delicious burger I've ever had. It's. That. Good.

Tell them I said a Chicago dog burger sounds gross while you're at it. I wouldn't waste the money to find out if it was gross because if I wanted a hot dog I'd order one.

Hah no. Basically it's a burger with a hotdog cut in half on top of it with dill relish, sport peppers, tomato, onion, mustard and NO KETCHUP on a poppy seed bun. It's actually good...but not great.

I think the restaurant is probably catering to its regular customers. Eating at a restaurant once every 30 days or once every 60 days is not paying any of their bills.
I think if you want to complain about someone's menu you should eat their more often before you complain.

I'm glad you explained the Chicago burger and I didn't have to Google it. Lamb would not be my choice of the two. Probably just not a big seller. A good business practice would be to keep some frozen lamb patties ready for when it's requested or sumthin. Maybe you should ask them why they aren't offering it anymore.

From what you've stated it seems you think they'll be out of business before long. When it gets there buy them out then you can put whatever you want on the menu and eat there every night.
