I have built a few recirculating watering systems for poultry. Basically, you have a large (50+ gallons) reservoir dug into the ground that catches water from a long (PVC tube)trough that is slightly at an angle. You use an aquarium water pump to push water up and to the far side of the trough. By digging the reservoir into the ground, you keep the water cooler in the summer and above freezing in the winter. YOu can take the project further by adding a charcoal filter canister or other filter media inline to keep contaminants out of the system.
