In the beginning.... (Warning Pic heavy Tractor build and a bit cheesy!)

No, no, dually TURF tires. I have two on each side now and left room for three. The freeze and thaw cycles coupled with rain and chicken grazing have turned my yard to mush!








Unfortunately, we have to jack it up, install the wheels, let it down, move it, then reverse the process to remove the wheels so we can set it back on the ground. I am still working on a cantilever system to simplify this morning ritual. The problem seems to be that a rugged reliable system is simple, but it will require some costly custom welding, since the rig weighs nearly 1000#.
 
Dually made me think big truck.......turf tires made me think lawn tractor, which is what those look like.

You could attach some flip down mesh aprons to cover the gap, then leave the tires in place.

 
Thanks for the suggestion. It has a wire floor now, but that is a long reach from the floor to the grass/clover when the thing is jacked up. I'd have to cut away the floor to make the apron work.
 
Yeah, that's a problem. Could turn the wire floor into the aprons...lot of work but maybe cheaper than the wheel lifts?
They'd get more food that way, but would tear up the ground...ahhh, pros and cons!

What size mesh is the floor? Do the poops go thru ok?
 
The floor is 2" X 4" welded fence wire. It keeps them from completely destroying the yard and affords some "dig in" protection. It also gives my girls a place to ride during transport.
 
I love that your whole family helped. You made it look so easy! I have been busing my coop FOREVER in spare scraps of time with spare scraps of wood and I still haven't entiry finished it. I'm not a carpenter that's for sure.
