In the garage?

Fred's Hens :

I do not brood in the house. No way. The smell and dust? No thanks. I brood either in the barn or in the unheated garage from day 1.

Grayling, MI area. Coldest area of the LP. There is no issue with the cold. You simply use a multi-light rack and turn on/off just what you need. I use a 250Wt, a 150wt and a 90 wt. It's so warm today, that I am down to the 90wt and they still aren't really in the circle.

Thank you all, they are being moved out tomorrow for sure. Nice set up you have here, and I love coming up to Grayling, one of the coolest places in our state I think.

We moved our babies into the garage this week. But because we are in Louisiana, I have to make sure the garage doesn't get too hot. Out little ladies are about 3 weeks old. We put the heat lamp on at night, but during the day, we open a window, put a fan in it and leave our laundry room door open so some air conditioning goes in there. It still can get pretty warm in there, but so far it hasn't gotten too hot. Their coop is ready & waiting and I'll be glad when they can move into that.

Ours were in the garage since the second week. They were just to smelly to keep inside any longer. We had an insulated brooder box though which easily kept 90 degrees. Had to actually take some off the top to let the heat out cause it was getting up into the 100's.
