The not so little ones got to go outside today. We are in the process of building their new run and house and also 'duck proofing' the garden so they currently are still living inside. They really could do with the run now but I'll have to keep cleaning up for another few days till its finished, in the mean time we borrowed next doors rabbit run and let them enjoy the outdoors, within minutes they were making mud pies and where extremely happy!

Also front of the new duck house painted and ready to be put together!

Beautiful! What an edifice! You all are much more patient than I.

Since I am a hovering duck mom, and fascinated with duck security, how do those latches work? Raccoon proof?

Thanks everyone, the ducklings have stolen my heart and I'm determined to try my best within my budget to keep them safe. The latches are just bolts but need to be lifted before they can be opened, fortunately as I live in the UK I only really have foxes to be worried about and perhaps the occasional mink, they are bad enough though! The house will eventually be securely joined to a run 12ft x 6ft x 6ft complete with roof and higher grade galvanised wire so the fox will have to get through that before he gets to the house, we are also having the run on a solid base but I plan to have a raised bed section for some turf which I can replace when they destroy it, they will hace the run of my garden complete with pond but only when I'm at home Hoping this will be enough to keep the hungry foxes at bay, the ducks may only have been £10 each but their house is costing me a small fortune, I figgured though that as we are lucky enough to afford it we may as well go the whole hog as this is better than the prospect of getting up one morning and finding out it wasn't secure enough, it would break my heart.

I think you have done a fine job, and have planned everything out great. Wishing you and your duckies all the best. Now be sure to post pics of them in their new digs when completed.
