*~|Chapter Three: The Humiliation|~*
Darkus caught up with Rocky, and slammed him down hard on the baked dirt, snarling furiously; "If you won't find your fate in the Forest of Moans, then you'll find it with me!" and he bit down on the frightened pup's neck. "No, stop! Please!" Rocky howled, and he felt Darkus's teeth on his neck.
"Darkus!" a deep voice bellowed. Darkus immediately stopped his attack and looked around for the origin of the voice that had called his name. His eyes fell on Cliff, and his blood ran cold, though it seems it couldn't get much colcer than it already was. "What in tarnation are you doing with my son?" Cliff snarled, stepping forward, his lips pulled up in a snarl, exposing his yellowed, chipped teeth. "Oh, Your Majesty, I was just training the Young Prince how to fight like an adult." Darkus lied, looking at Cliff with his sparkling golden eyes.
"you are LYING!" Cliff snarled and charged at Darkus, his teeth bared. Darkus shrank down beneath his attacker, groveling in the dirt, and exposing his belly, while emitting a small whimper. Cliff seemd to tower above him, strands of drool dangling from his maw. "Please, Your Majesty, please don't hurt me; I meant nothin' by it!" Darkus howled. "I shouldn't trust you, Darkus. You've had a past history of murder! Get out of my sight, and if I see you near my son again..." he trailed off, making his threat more effective. Darkus nodded his head. "I can assure you, Highness, I wont!" he whimpered, scuttling out from underneath Cliff, he ran away, howling, tail tucked.
Cliff turned his gaze to Rocky; it was a gaze full of disappointement and disapproval. "Rocky... I'm ashamed to call you my son, even before so low a creature as Darkus. How could you be as deceitful as him?" he said softly. "He would have killed you; I don't put it past him to do so. A creature like him should be killed or locked up, but we don't have the heart to do that."
Rocky felt a small lump in his throat; his father thought of him like that? Then he spoke, forcing the words past that blockage in his throat; "Dad... I didn't mean... I didn't think you'd mind... I'm sorry." Cliff nudged him, and smiled. "Just promise me you'll never do that again?" Rocky nodded, a small smile on his maw. Cliff smiled. "Run along, then. There's plenty more daytime to explore."
Yuka sat in the mouth of the den, smiling warmly at her mate. "He's not a bad pup; he's just being a pup. All pups are this way." she said softly. Cliff nodded, watching Rocky snap at butterflies. Darkus was nowhere in sight. For the moment.
