Over the last month my flock has been ravaged by raccoons, today I FINALLY caught him. Now, what do I do with him? I don't want to let him go. I don't own a gun. And the game warden won't come get him!

Yep, with no gun.....test his breath holding ability....a creek works rather well....just plop cage in, rock on top, go grab some lunch, then come back and prepare for some dinner.

Could you take it to a friend who has a gun... That would be more humane than drowning. Or someone who will euthanize it
for you? Anonymosly drop it off at fish & game commisions front door (I'm sure they'd do something with it then!). Probably not quite legal, but if it was me and I needed help, and nobody would help, I wouldn't care. Sorry if I'm not giving the best advice out there, just throwing out ideas. I personally couldn't drown anything... I had a close call when I was young, and it isn't fun.

I can't believe that the game warden doesn't do something with them; I found a rabbit that had been hit on the busy street in front of the RE office where I work, and I gathered the poor thing up and took him across the street where they were located, and I know they put him down, but at least they did work with me and helped us out, as we knew he had been that way for the week-end! I think that should be THEIR job, for crying out loud.

...but make sure the garbage container is big enough. My DH tried it with a skunk but the garbage can wasn't deep enough and the skunk just came up to the top!

well, in most places it's illegal to just let him go, unless it's on your own property, and that would defeat the whole purpose. By letting him go off your own property, you just make him someone else's problem and he'll eat someone else's chickens. Plus, it has to be quite far, or he'll just come back.

Ask someone with a gun to shoot him, or drown him in a large trash can or creek.

You don't really have a lot of options if you don't have a gun, and you game warden won't get him.

What about animal control? I bet your sheriff's office might send someone out to shoot him for you? Sometimes they're nice like that. I can't believe you don't have a neighbor who wouldn't mind shooting him for you?

I hope you find a solution to your problem and congratulations for catching your predator.
