4 babies are out! She has been peeling the shell from a 5th egg and I didn't get a good look at the sixth. She trusted me to get the empty shells out.

Now here's a thing. I've read a lot of stuff on BYC about assisted hatching, mostly where the eggs have been incubated in a machine. One could end up believing that a hen isn't capable of assisting her own chicks to hatch and if the hen doesn't help then there is something wrong with the hen. It seems to me that at least some hens know at hatch time which are going to make it and which are not in a particular time frame. It's all about getting the chicks off the nest and mobile as quickly as possible.

Every time I fire up the table saw or chop saw, I still picture him marching over as close to me as he could get and scream crowing at me!

What got published was about the fifth draft! I did not start off gently. What I wanted to write is 'go check my profile details and you will find that I have a bachelor's degree in environmental chemistry, you doofus!'. And I used to brew wine. That being said, I get points for restraint!

The chicks Savannah hatched are ermine Ameraucanas. I'm going to have some fun next year selling hatching eggs.

I'm finally getting back to myself after many years of tough times. One of the biggest signs that I'm recovering is that I'm finally finishing my house. Two weeks ago, I installed the brand new mini split that has been sitting in my garage for almost 8 years!

I believe the same thing. She's only just six months old, but she has all the instincts I believe she needs and she only now needs experience. Hopefully that makes sense.
