4 babies are out! She has been peeling the shell from a 5th egg and I didn't get a good look at the sixth. She trusted me to get the empty shells out.
You got this, NavyBeans. You are 1/4 silkie and 100% velociraptor.
He turned out a goodun with your patience.I lost him a few months ago at 7 years old. I'm miss the pisser.
Every time I fire up the table saw or chop saw, I still picture him marching over as close to me as he could get and scream crowing at me!He turned out a goodun with your patience.
I must admit I used to chuckle when reading of Fabio's objection to the power tools and general chaos in his yard.![]()
You showed some serious restraint! The subsequent posters turned that whole thread into a hilariously entertaining read on my lunch break today!! Thank you! What got published was about the fifth draft! I did not start off gently. What I wanted to write is 'go check my profile details and you will find that I have a bachelor's degree in environmental chemistry, you doofus!'. And I used to brew wine. That being said, I get points for restraint!
I see we're sharing baby pictures...
This is Savannah, Fabio's youngest daughter, hatched and raised by my favorite hen, Astrid.

This is Fabio looking over the last batch of chicks he would get to meet in his life. I lost him a few months ago at 7 years old. I'm miss the pisser.

The chicks Savannah hatched are ermine Ameraucanas. I'm going to have some fun next year selling hatching eggs.
These are some of Savannah's kids today.

I'm finally getting back to myself after many years of tough times. One of the biggest signs that I'm recovering is that I'm finally finishing my house. Two weeks ago, I installed the brand new mini split that has been sitting in my garage for almost 8 years!

Yee ha! Off I go.
I believe the same thing. She's only just six months old, but she has all the instincts I believe she needs and she only now needs experience. Hopefully that makes sense. Now here's a thing. I've read a lot of stuff on BYC about assisted hatching, mostly where the eggs have been incubated in a machine. One could end up believing that a hen isn't capable of assisting her own chicks to hatch and if the hen doesn't help then there is something wrong with the hen. It seems to me that at least some hens know at hatch time which are going to make it and which are not in a particular time frame. It's all about getting the chicks off the nest and mobile as quickly as possible.
I watched Felicitas or one of the chooks try and grab one of those big green flying bugs. She succeeded, and then it flew out, causing surprise.Flying ants... nom nom nom....
It made my heart jump to see you’ve got yourself a 3th bird with feathers. I hope he may shares some of the goodies and decides to stay for a bit.Yep, he/she is still here.![]()
Beautiful birds! Sorry you lost Fabio... It truly is never easy to lose any of our birds... Glad you are doing better! What got published was about the fifth draft! I did not start off gently.
