Those handrails aren't to code. The openings are bigger than 4", a child could fall through the sides.

I don't think it's possible to fall through the sides. You definitely could fall though.
I've seen rock-walls less challenging than that.

Thanks for asking. Jess is doing well and is planning a trip into Tokyo this weekend. Fortunately the 2 Typhoons headed toward Japan this week both went off to the east and just gave them a little rain. The earthquake today didn't appear to have caused much damage.

Japan is a beautiful country, but is a magnet for typhoons and earthquakes

I subscribe to the USGS Earthquake alerts to keep up on what is going on there.
