Oh man, found a flower today!! But forgot my camera. But I can show a pic of the same species and genus last year!! Meet Symplocarpus foetidus my dear friends.. Eastern skunk cabbage. it creates its OWN heat, so as to melt snow and allow it to be one of the first flowers in the spring to bloom. It also gives off a nasty skunk smell when stepped on or crushed.. A class of 24, and a few people stepped on the plants by the river... Sitting here now I realize... I did too! Aside from the smell, the pitcher shaped structure (Spathe) is a very pretty mottled color!! Now i want to go for a walk... but i have a class in a few hours.
