Your friend there looks like it can be a Mojave.
Be VERY CAREFUL around those. Very Dangerous venom.
They are a common type in Arizona.

Horrible things - one took down a friend's donkey. A full grown donkey! Bit him on the neck and his veins were already collapsing by the time the vet got there. That was an awful day. I like most snakes but I hate pit vipers.

Where I grew up first 8 years with Grandma.
Recall going to the coop Jack one of out dogs knocked me over.
Then I saw him throw a thing with shake of his head.
It was a cotton mouth he killed before it could bite me.
