The actor (James Doohan) who played Montgomery Scott was in the Canadian military an was part of the landing party on D-day. That night hes was running between the lines relaying intel an was shot 3 times by friendly fire. Once in the body that was stopped by a whiskey flask his brother gave him for luck, once in the leg an once in the hand taking off his finger. Most people watched the show never knowing about his missing finger. It was never mentioned an that hand was usually hidden from camera.
