in this random rambling thread we post random pictures

People burn their fields off this time of year so they will get fresh shoots come up an the turkeys will come in. I was a wild lands fire fighter too. I still have the giant banana uniform somewhere. I am probably still on the list to be called out on big ones. I know I dont still have my tinfoil tent though....

I'd love to burn some of the wild grass sections on my land, but it's too risky for my taste. Always windy in the spring here...

I have done it many times .....but I did it the smart way .....controlled and I never had any issues , understanding how fires works goes a long way in insuring that they only burn where you want them

Its not hard its just a lot of stuff you need to know an take in to account. Not much room for mistakes.

Exactly , just I burn a strip around the whole outer side to give me a barrier to stop the burn , then wait till the winds have died down and then light all sides at once ......burn goes inward and destroys itself , also no chance of the fire jumping where we don't want it . Have done this on 80 acres surrounded by old swamps just full of dead grass etc , never had a issue .............good example though , shows the burn going into the wind instead of being pushed by the wind , that's where everyone looses it when the wind grabs it
