Quote: The metallic sheen on this Akhal Teke is characteristic of the breed, but I believe his color is cremello, not palomino. A palomino is basically a red horse with one copy of the cream gene, which dilutes the red to a sort of golden yellow color (the shade can vary quite a bit - I own two palominos; one is pale gold, the other almost pumpkin colored). Palominos have normal colored eyes and skin. A cremello is a red-based horse with two copied of the cream gene, which dilutes the color down to nearly white, with pink skin and blue eyes.

Knowing how dirty my horses get and how fast they do it, and knowing how easily pink skin sunburns, I'm afraid all my mind sees is "high maintenance!"

Cyn, your bush looks like a Flowering Almond to me:

Wow, thanks for the great information on gene expression. :thumbsup

Cynthia I love your house - it's a ranch, so no stairs.

. I've seen a couple in the neighborhood like yours., so you could just as happily move here. Of course we have a "neighborhood," but, we are very close to forest preserves, so you'd have that "off the beaten path," feeling. People out here tend to be crazy too - you just have to "out" crazy them to keep them in their place.

Could your flowering shrub be a rhododendron? People out here have some that survive the worst winters, and are early to bloom in spring. Last time I checked they were in full leaf but, no flower buds yet. That area is currently having sewers and city water brought in - I hope they didn't damage it when digging up property all over the place. Looks awful.

It is considered a ranch style, but..there is a basement..finished. 3 Bedrooms up, 2 down, a family room down, the laundry room down, that is also a kitchen. The laundry area has those close and hide doors. We don't use the kitchen down there..took out the stove that was there when we moved in yrs. ago. We do have a deep freeze in place of where a fridge goes. Has a double sink and nice counter space.
Crazy? Oh, I can do crazy as crazy goes .. hold my own on that one for sure.

That bush..I wish it was a rhododendron..we don't have those out here.

Bunny, knew it wasn't a Palomino..I rode one for yrs. She was great! Love that coloring. I also love the blacks, and Paints. I am a Quarter Horse person..I have ridden the Arabian, but I like the gait of the Quarter best.

The girl I rode was more this color.

Quote: Thanks for the info. It's an elegant, fine boned animal,\ bred for the desert, but a bit thin for my tastes. I have never seen a coat like that on a horse. Like glass. Stunning.

Our humble abode. There's dad mowing the lawn for the first time. If you look close at the front door, you will see our two little dogs watching me.
Despite the cold and icicles we got last week, my tulips popped up, and so did the flowering bush, which for the life of me I can't remember the name of. We are in a neighborhood, that is why you keep hearing, wish I had more land! :) We are actually pretty happy here, all settled in for the final yrs.

Lovely place! Such a big yard. Add a little picket fence around the front, and I envision a chicken recreation area! They will help mow and fertilize the lawn too!
