in this random rambling thread we post random pictures

Cyn, I don't know if you ever visited the Derperella thread but once someone posted her morphing into a loaf of bread, it was hysterical, because we could picture that happening.

I'm not sure if the pug you put up is morphing into a loaf of bread or a roast.

Major kudos to you for putting the dogs first in your breeding program.
Thanks but its not really that.

Here is the dog that made me fall in love with pugs.

He was a gift from my brother. My brother got him from his original owner an when I fell in love with him he gave him to me. Unlike any other pug I had ever seen, he was stocky an had a nose an could run. He could hike the canyons around here with me.

I had an uncle that was breeding pugs down in Alabama. When he decided to get out of pugs an focus on Yorkes, he gave me his stock. Frankie was the best of his bunch.

Frankie is a healthy dog. I still have her an she is in her late teens now. She was a great mom in her day to. But she snores constantly. She is spent just walking to the yard to use the bathroom. An the AC has to be on all the time cause she shows signs of heat stroke at about 83 degrees.

Those two were the start of my breeding program.

My goal has been to produce pugs as close to my first one as I can. Not show dogs but dogs that are good pets. Dogs that can hike all day with you or play in the yard all summer.

I also want them to be able to sleep on me an me still be able to hear the TV

Its not always worked out but over all I like the dogs I have an cant see why anyone would want what others are breeding for.

I didnt start out breeding for what was best for the dog, I started breeding for what was best for me. Whats best for me an the people that buy my puppies is a dog that is healthy, is fun to own an does not need to go to the vet to have puppies. It just so happens that when you breed that way an are not trying to win a looks contest, you end up breeding healthier dogs.

All of the unhealthy breeds are the ones that are no longer being bread for a reason other than an arbitrary look. All of the healthy breeds are still being bread for a job with look being secondary.

I know right? I love dogs.

Ok, so Rebel, you don't want any of your pugs looking this much show quality.

No really though, I know what you are saying about that snug pug nose. So many health problems. Not just with the breathing part, but they have to be taken care of in between those wrinkles. They can get some pretty nasty infections if the heat causes a rash in there, and the owner isn't aware of it..a lot of different types of skin problems in that area if not taken care of properly.

So, when are you going to send me that pup? Would shipping be a lot..along with the cost of the dog and the kennel? I know, you don't ship.

I laugh every time I see that picture... Its apparently not cheep. The people I have seen offering to ship pups are charging more for shipping than I sell my pups for.

I used to ship a lot of dogs & pups back and forth - I think the last time was 1980 - going to England and mandated quarantine. Shipping wasn't bad then price wise, you could rent the crate - the plastic type Vari kennels I think for $ 5. or Buy the crate at less than retail. I'm sure prices have well gone up. Mainly used United and Delta back then.

Cyn too bad you don't know someone flying out & back that could pick up puppy - could ride with them in under seat container.

Do you all remember Pekingese? They were the fad dog of the early seventies. The neighbor had one. It could barely breath and it's eyes would pop out. I was just a kid, but i did not see the fun in having a dog you could not play with, let alone pet.

They are still big. A lot of pug breeders breed them too. They are thought of as long haired versions of the same dog. They are actually a lot worse off than pugs though. I really think they were used to keep you warm at night. I get asked about them a lot.
