Cynthia is the top bug a dragonfly?? I prefer bugs in photos to real life.- but I can appreciate their beauty

Yes, it is. Those things come in a lot of different colors..like butterflies. :)

I love to watch them in the afternoons. I have a 'swarm' of 10 or so dragon flies that gather in the space between the coop, the barn and the paddock. They dip and bank and circle all afternoon hunting mosquitoes and gnats and whatever else is buzzing there. Very soothing to watch. Almost like a dance. Reminds me of videos of dolphins hunting schools of fish......

I have a ton of dragonfly larvae on the ground. Ant eaters are awesome. Can't wait until they mature so that I can have another swarm to get rid of the pesky flies!

Dragonflies spend more than half of their lives as larvae, which live in water. I keep hoping we are "raising" dragonflies here; the water table has dropped since the county's well field came into service, a lot of the pools that used to form in the woods are dry most of the time.

We are told not to allow standing water - too much Nile Virus going around. I don't find the repellent products to be working at all even on short walks. We have a lot of forest preserves around.

See we have a one acre pond behind us and tons of adults. Then I have connected rain water barrels. The mosquito larvae can go die. I'm afraid to treat because of dragonflies.
