Our restoration of the Caterina Campodonico and Chiarella/DeKatt sculptures at Staglieno Cemetery in Genoa are almost done, and work is starting on the next two. These four are in the same location at the end of one of the galleries, so doing all four will create a beautiful place.

Caterina Campodonico:



This sculpture, the tomb of Carlo Marchese fu Francesco and his wife, Fanny Merani, is one of the two that restoration starts on this week. This allegorical figure represents charity, and is inscribed "Give alms, those who give to the poor give to God".
We are half way to our 2016 fundraising goal for our upcoming restorations. Won't you take moment and give a small contribution to help save these beautiful sculptures? We are a 501(c)3 non profit organization. http://donate.staglieno.com/

Iron hammers, steel chisels, hand held bow drills for some of the more complex detail work, calipers and a simple pantograph called a "pointing machine" to make precise measurements... then load it on an ox cart, transport it to the cemetery, set it in place with ropes and pulleys. Amazing people.

These are typical tools of the time.

No, the Easter will be in the spring. The chikens are for the Red Chicken. The 2017 year is the year of the Chicken in the chinese calendar. I can not say that in Rusia are too popular Chinese horoscopes and other mythology, but is made to put the animal, the year that begins. The Chiken year - and everybody to make salads and other food in the form of a chicken, let`s meet the year of the Chicken. We have, perhaps, a little strange customs, and it turns out the combination of Christmas and the holiday in honor of the animal from the Chinese mythology. The 2016 year is the year of the Monkey. 2018 year is the year of the Dog.
