I LUV Dogwoods. Tried growing in my backyard, a while ago. Just would not thrive for me. Other flowering trees, did make it and are tall and grown now. I'm in a cooler zone than you are.
Is that pix from one of your Dogwoods??
Sometimes nurseries sell stock not really intended for the zone,,,, but who is to stop that. I tried growing peaches. They must have been a warm climate variety, like Georgia peaches. Did not live, and produce long,,,, before trees died. I know there are suited varieties for my area. Southern Michigan, and Northern Indiana,, are filled with peach orchards,, as well as other fruit orchards. I'm in same weather zone.
