I had a similar story. I kept a small herd of geese, some of which, unfortunately, were killed by a fox. Then I caught this fox (I had no choice, I had to get rid of it, it carried too much threat), after which I had the remaining geese, but there were not many of them. I did some building work so the foxes couldn't get to my bird anymore, in addition we got a big serious dog for protection and after that I went and bought about three dozen little goslings and raised them in another paddock.I don't hatch unless I have a broody. I hate raising them myself. This girl thinks I'm her mommy, because her egg got deserted, and I hatched her.
I love her, but it's easier if they are raised by a mama hen.

Swans are really big birds.
And we're very grateful for that! Been in a drought for a few years now.Looks like excellent snowpack!
