I bet your neighbors love it, too! How does it differ from the commercially made ones with the same bait? Is it just a larger container?

There is no performance difference. Making my own, costs me nothing. The top trap portion, I just save. And have a bunch from previous saves. See where they come from just below.
@cavemanrich, what is the top part of your trap?
I save these from these disposable ones. Just glue them onto the container lids, after I cut opening.

Is it too much to hope that they attract deer flies?
Get one of the disposable ones and see if you attract deer flies. :idunno We don't have deer flies in our area that I encountered.

Note;
If you are unable to get the BAIT, you can make your own. Use some dry Cat food, along with some canned cat food. mixed into a quantity of water. This does take a few days to kick into action gear. Once you have dead flies, the BAIT, (regardless which one you choose) works FULL SPEED AHEAD.
The purchased Bait works one minute after you get it wet:thumbsup
