Owls, oppossum and raccoons are nocturnal
Coyotes and foxes are mostly nocturnal but can be out in early morning and evening.

These birds were taken in the morning and evening.
Therefore it is highly unlikely that an owl, oppossum or a raccoon got them.

Yes I’d love you to keep naming every predator in the animal kingdom, I mean a tiger could of got them aswell but it’s very unlikely.

Not True. I had a huge owl try to take my golden retriever puppy at Midnite. The pup would have been a goner if my german shepherd did not get there in time.

I'm so sorry for your loss, that mustve been so awful finding peices of your birds.

I think you are doing the right thing making plans for the run and supervising free ranging. I have a solar motion light on the side of my coop that faces the river. It helps some. Sounds like you are doing what you can to prevent further attacks.
Good luck, I hope your offender/s move on with no more harm done to your flock.

Yes, but you were curious as to why it was very unlikely that two different types of predators killed the OP’s birds even though the hen and duck were taken at the same time.

@rabiee A plan of keeping the flock contained and supervised is a good start until figuring it out. If you can, a game camera located on likely trails to and from the coop may help narrow down what you're looking for. Reinforcement of the areas where they roost at night will help. If you haven't already, electric fence/netting is an excellent deterrent to ground based predators. Post pics of the coop and run and we can give some more suggestions based on what we see.

I haven't logged on in awhile, but when I get home from work I'll take some pictures of the coop and pen and post them. Also the thought of a tiger roaming around the Adirondacks made me lol

But yes three birds were taken total, the first two a duck and hen were in the evening, and the second a hen was in the morning. I leave for work at 6:30am so that is when the birds are let out. But so far keeping them enclosed during the day has been successful. A neighbor a few miles away has lost over 10 ducks, so I guess I should feel a little lucky it was only three We have a trail cam set up by the coop to see if anything was bothering them during the day, but so far nothing. I think I will move it to the woods to see if we can catch something out there. Over the winter I have gotten racoons, foxes and deer on the camera. And the neighbor lets hunters run their dogs during coyote season. It's my understanding they catch quite a few. It's mostly cattle farms on our road. We have a brook and a river that run through our property so I am sure we are like a fast food restaurant.
