Solved Inapropate avatars

And this is one reason the mod job became not as fun for me years back, that these issues became tiresome at times to deal with and everyone has a different take on what is okay for avatars and screen names. Chickens are a safe choice, for sure, G-rated humorous ones are also fun. There are things some think are not right to use as an avatar that I have no issue with and might choose myself (though I know the reaction they'd get from some comments made in this thread),and it has nothing to do with being inappropriate for younger members.
This is a world wide forum with people from all parts of this country and other countries so maybe someone should examine why their hackles are up if it's not something verging on pornographic. My main issue when I was a moderator was the inappropriate screen names, a play on words for profane language. I would kindly ask a new member to choose a new screen name. I see some are flying under the radar on occasion and report the name. If it's not R rated, perhaps people really ought to chill out some.

BYC always tried to protect younger members because the internet is really not a safe place. The best thing to do is bring anything questionable to the attention of a moderator, who is part of the mod team, and if there is a question, she/he will bring it up to the "panel" of moderators for discussion.

Spooky dying orange chicken posted as avatar.

(Dying was by gloved Dracula hands and a Halloween knife).

(Will remove if inappropriate, but, hey, it was a chicken.....).

BRILLIANTLY stated!

With literally millions of visitors every year, we can't please all people all the time. We do our best to keep BYC "kid friendly"... but even that is SUPER up to interpretation. I know some parents that let their 10 year old's watch R rated movies, and other parents would freak-out with their 25 year old watching the same R rated movies.

BYC members need to be at least 13 to join. For this (and other reasons), in general, we lean more and more towards aligning with the MPAA ratings for what most people deem "appropriate" and "not appropriate" for 13+. That said, there are a lot of PG (not even PG-13) related items that are reported, and we review these reports on a case-by-case basis.

Fortunately it's pretty easy for people visiting BYC to avoid sections that have off-topic stuff that might contain content they don't like.

If peeps are worried about seeing something (or their kids seeing something) that they deem "isn't appropriate" (i.e., PG or sometimes PG-13 and below), then it would be best for them to stick to the chicken-related sections. We moderate the entire site to our standards, but we do put a little more weight in keeping the content in the chicken-related sections more "appropriate".
