Inbreeding in chickens

I have a question re inbreeding. Three years ago I bought 6 chicks from a store which probably got them from Mcmurray's. Since then, one succumbed to cancer and three to egg yolk peritonitis and other problems related to egg laying. They were 2 RIR and an EE. Is this lack of resistance to these diseases typical of inbred or overbred chickens? I understand that chicken farms dispose of chickens after one year of heavy egg laying so longevity is not a concern for them. I am less interested in egg production and more interested in healthy chickens. Are some the breeds that are bred for heavy egg production more likely to die sooner from egg laying problems? Are some breeds known to live longer than others? Thanks in advance for any information you have.

decide what breeds you want and look here in the forsale adds. Come spring you should be ableto find almost anything with feathers from someone fairly close by. You would be amaised how many people here live fairly close to you. find your states tread in the where am I where are you section.
