We are new to chickens so please excuse if this is a silly question. We am getting some BR chickens this weekend!! Three pullets and 1 cockeral. They are from the same group of hens and I assume one Roo. So that would mean they are all "related." I assume this won't hurt the eggs for consumption but what about if we wanted to hatch the eggs for sale?? I know inbreeding is bad with dogs but what about chickens??

Thanks for the help,

Patrick

Inbreeding is how alot of new breeds were created.

I think it matters on how closely the birds are related. For instance...I can breed my Cockerel back to his mother without much of an issue. BUT I dare NOT breed my cockerel to his full sister.

This is how most Exhibition breeders do there breeding's. It helps to keep the characteristics you want in a line. I would never breed full sibling together. Half siblings are okay if you are trying to get a certian something. Father to daughter, grandfather to granddaughter, etc.
