Hello all!
My wife, myself, and our two young daughters are moving to Frederick County, MD to start a new homestead. I found out about this site during our real estate search. This was my go to place in determining which areas were off limits in terms of excessive restrictions. We've never had chickens, but I've been researching them for over two years during the sale of our old home and quest for a new one. I'm a big fan of Harvey Ussery, Joel Salatin, and permaculture and I really hope to be able to integrate chickens (and eventually bees, and some other livestock) into our lives. I'll probably go for Rhode Island Reds or Buff Orpingtons and am shooting for a flock of about 8 birds. I've been shuffling a large collection of edible plants around for years and I'm really excited to settle down!

If you haven't already been there, check out the Learning Center for some really helpful articles. As for which breed to get, I vote for some of each!

Thanks for joining us!

FriarCluck, good to see you here. After all that lurking, it's
about time you joined.

For those who may not know, Harvey Usseryand Joel Salatin
have written some very good books about raising chickens,
homesteading and just general good living.

Spook
