Increasing protein in feed

Right now I'm feeding my peafowl some cat food in addition to their feed. I just feed it as is. It's actually seemed to cure them of their feather picking issue.

Do you just put some over top of their feed? I was thinking during molt this might be a good idea, my older ducks really struggle through molt and I'd like to help them get through it easier.

I sprinkle a handful on top of the feed. My runners seem to really like it.

You said Eagle pak can that be bought at the grocery store, I haven't looked at cat food in years. or do you have another that you can recommend?

There are a number of good ones. Taste of the Wild is another that we use sometimes. You might try Wellness.

I sprinkle dried fish powder on their feed. It's 60% protein, and contains lots of minerals and micro-nutrients.

It is often sold in gardening stores as powdered fish fertilizer, but you can also get feed grade. (I've been told that they are the exact same thing, just a difference in labeling requirements......... and price of course). If you can't find it, your feed store should be able to order it for you.

I pay $50-some dollars for a 50-pound bag, and adding just 2 pounds of fish-meal per 50-pound bag of feed will increase your overall protein percentage by over 1%

I usually sprinkle it on top then mix it in thoroughly. This is mainly just because the peafowl like to kick it all out if it's just on top

I was reading part of a quite lengthy thread on here yesterday about feeding fermented feeds, it is supposed to be quite beneficial to the birds and will reduce the amount of feed consumption. I am going to try it.
