I'm not trying to put a damper on your goals,BUT fresh yard eggs normally go from 2.50$ to 3.50$ a dozen. It would be a lot safer and less expensive for a trial run. You can always give the chicks away. I bet if you look around you can find the breeds your looking for local. Ask around at the post office and the local grocery store. If you ask 5 people one of them will either have chickens or know who does.

Here it is

My mum has had a bad experience with ordering eggs off Ebay.
She ordered 12 Buff Sussex eggs and when they came all was fine; no cracks, eggs were clean etc.
We put them in the incubator and on candling day, two were infertile and two we weren't sure about. We took out the infertile ones but left the other two in there.
Then, on lockdown day I candled them again and not just the two that we thought were bad but FIVE eggs were goners.
Out of the 5 remaining 3 hatched. Not impressed. :/

However I'm planning to get some SLW hatching eggs from Ebay. Hopefully it'll be second-time-lucky.

Also, out of interest, where do you come from Leah?

I would love to have a Good egg/Bad Egg right here, for non-Byc sellers. Since a seller here can be rated.

Off eBay--This year alone, first shipment of Silkie eggs 6 eggs-- wrapped each egg in a little toilet paper and put in a carton. This was in a box with some paper towels. I couldn't believe they weren't cracked. Good points-- all eggs were fertile and developed, colors were a beautiful variety. Drawback was poor type on chicks.

Next set of eggs, Cochin. I would prefer to buy them on here but they are seriously hard to find. I received 12 eggs, 4 developed. After 4 days, I could see a difference, a few days later I cracked some clears and no bullseyes (no question). I have read that Cochin can have difficulty with fertility due to the fluff. I notified the breeder but they wouldn't replace any.

Generally, pleople ratebbased on arrival of eggs, not development.
