I plan on incubating eggs I get from my hen house but they are cold because my hens aren’t broody and don’t spend much time on them. It’s still cold where I live so the eggs laid that day are cold when I try to pick what I want to incubate. My question is can these eggs still be placed in an incubator for hatching. They are no way frozen , just cold , its about 45deg. Here. Do I have to get them as soon as they are laid ? Or if they are cool to the touch can they still be used for incubating?

I know refrigerated eggs from the grocery store can be hatched if they turn out to be fertile. It's not good for the hatch rate, and I'd let them warm up to room temp before incubating, but they aren't dead. It helps that the live part is only a few cells when they're freshly laid.

Should be fine. If the eggs get too cold for an extended period of time, there is an increased risk of hatching defects, but less than a day in 45 F is not that cold.

For comparison, I've pulled eggs out of the refrigerator for incubation when I wanted to hatch a particular hen's eggs. 12/13 hatched.

Thanks

eggs can last a while before incubation without problems. I've hatched cold eggs before seeing as my Pekin ducks are too domestic to sit on them. :D BEST OF LUCK!
