Has anyone ever hatched Crevecoeur eggs? Are they difficult to hatch? Any tips? I raise purebred Silver laced barnevelders right now and just ordered Crevecoeur and mottled houdan eggs.

I know some breeds are harder to hatch than others.

I have a sportsman 1502.

I have raised standard-size Crevecoeurs over 20 years. The eggs are no more difficult to hatch than other standard-size chickens.

Crevecoeurs and Houdans are mostly non-setters. That means you would have to hatch their eggs in an incubator or under a broody, since these hens won't go broody and hatch their own eggs. But that has nothing to do the hatchability of the eggs.

You will love Crevecoeurs!

My mother-in-law was born and raised in France. While people say that "Creve Coeur" literally translates as "broken heart," my mother-in-law said that in French it's an idiom meaning, "heart-breaker." As in, heartbreakingly beautiful!
