Incubating eggs...Anyone want to join me

Congrats, Ayda!
I'm so jealous of you guys. Oh well, maybe next time for me. My mother came over yesterday and started cracking open eggs. I cringed, but there wasn't anything but a nasty mess inside them all. I must have really screwed up some how or maybe they weren't fertile to begin with. i swear we thought we saw a dark area in the bottom of the egg with the air bubble at top when we candled. Guess we didn't know what we were looking at. Mom took her bator. Guess she wants to try hatching call ducks. I guess I need to get my own bator or build one. Boy that is intimidating. I'm impressed with all you guys that can make your own. The electrical part scares me.
Or, I might just wait until next year and see if I have a broody hen. Or maybe wait till winter so I have something to look forward to during the long months. hmmmm

Muslw4 if you can get your hands on about $100 you can build 1.They are very easy to build.I have posted links in here before on how to build an incubator and the guy shows you step by step. I bet you can do it if you just put your mind to it & don't be scared of getting a shock cause if you was to do something wrong it won't work. As long as you have everything unpluged till you get it built then plug it in. & if it works then you know you have done it right.Trust me, If I can do it then I know for sure you can do it.Go get the stuff to build it with and then start your build.

. This is where I learned how to build one.really the only hardest part of doing the whole incubating thing for me is after I got it built was to get the temp just right & the humidity. Other than that it's a breeze. He sells his for around a $100 cause he has so many that he hasn't sold.or you can go to www.rushlanepoulty.com and watch all his videos. But for me and everyone else I'm purdy sure, is if you can do it yourself why pay alot of money for something you can do yourself. But if you want I could email my phone number to you and when you have everything you need just call me and I'll explain step by step on the phone.

Thank you both Wyogirl and Floridachicken. Very kind offers. I'll check out the links and think about it. I'm leaning towards holding off incubating again until Jan. or Feb. That way I have something to look forward to in the long winter months. Also, I am thinking I need to save a little money to build or buy a new garden shed so I can turn the rest of the old shed into another chicken house. Plus, I want to read up on breeding chickens. I really like the lavender and blue color. I want blue orpingtons, but haveing trouble fining a hatchery or breeder near me that has them. I was trying to hatch some blue orp eggs but... Anyway, I did find another source for eggs and have seem them on ebay. So, I have some research and planning to do! Thanks again for the offers and info! Much appreciated!

Have a total of 30 lavender orp eggs from ebay, 8 in incubator and the others split between 2 broodies, due to hatch July 16. Will candle all tonight to see if anything is gowing! Also have 6 shipped turkey eggs under broody that are due to hatch July 23, will candle them also. Wish me luck!
I also want blue orpingtons and of course the lavender, I am going to try my best to get at least one!!

Boy, Ayda, might have to buy some lavender eggs from you next year! I hope you have a bountiful hatch! Thought about trying the broodie hen hatch next year. I have a silkie hen and cochin. Hope at least one turns into a broodie.

I have 6 eggs outside that was laid from my 2 chickens only have 1 is a rock & the other is a RIR & 1 RIR rooster. So monday or tuesday I'll be incubating them after they lay some more.I don't know if I should bring them inside or leave them in the nesting box. has any of ya'll seen my camera that is live? it is online as of now but I'm not always by the pc to make sure it's online at all times but I try to keep it on.Grandkids want me to name her BIG MOUTH cause she is always chirping.

I had a webcam running to my laptop & put the camera inside the box where the chick is and the website www.eyespyfx.com lets u put your cameras onto their site for free if you sign up. They do let you pay for an upgrade for alot more stuff but since I just put my cam online I don't need to pay for it.You can lock your camera down to where no one can view it unless you give them the password to your cam. As I always say "If you can do it for free, Why pay for it". I have a camera outside viewing my property but I don't have the hardware to put it online. To do that I will have to get a video card to install into my desktop pc.Plus on my laptop I'm using a 4 port USB hub to connect everything to my laptop. Wyogirl if you have the hardware I can help you on setting it up to where you can put it on the web.All you really need is a cheap webcam hooked to your pc.
