Incubating French Black Copper Marans

I wanted to dry hatch but I can't even get 10%. I'm barely holding onto 27% with some water in the reservoir and 2 pieces of soaked sponge. With it being so cold here and having a wood stove for heat, keeping any humidity has been a nightmare! I don't know how all of you can do it! My eggs have been in for 6 hrs and I'm already going nuts! The next three weeks can't go by quick enough!

I would sure consider 27% a "dry" hatch even if you are having to add water.

When we get a few warmer days and this snow melts mine will jump to 35% with no water. If its super cold, mine will drop to 10%-15% and I will add a few eye droppers of warm water.

Humidity has always been a nightmare for me. Luckily we haven't used our wood stove so it has been around 40% completely dry. 27% good for a dry.

Also this three weeks is like watching the grass grow. Dragging!!!

I just did my first candling tonight- 2 of the buff orpington eggs are definately no out of 10 eggs. My Marans eggs i'm thinking only 1 was not good out of 15 eggs, the others looked like good air cells forming.

Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Day 7, 14 more to go...temperature holding steady at 100' and 36% humidity.

sounds like a good start

Any progress on how the eggs are doing??  Any luck using the scale to track their progress?
Hi Matt!

The first candling/weigh they had all lost some weight - even the two I don't think are good. Tonight I'm candling and weighing the eggs so I should have some idea if it's a waste of time or not. :). Have you candled your newest eggs yet or all Marans?

I'll let you know.
