Incubating in Spotsman

All you incubators out there- a question. I have a large cabinet full of eggs :) BUT....I get conflicting information on humidity for this incubator. Some sites say incubate at 65% humidity and then increase to 85% when a hatch is taking place. Others say , no wicks, so humidity will be about 45-50%, then put in a wick to rasie to 65% during a hatch. I have been using the higher % but it is hard to get much higher for a hatch. SO, do I remove the wicks and drop the humididty?/ If yes, when (eggs are at various stages).

Hatch day for one of my batches is today and already have a few out. Hoping the majority emerge in the next 24 hours....I am sooooo impatient, desiring to see if the eggs that I can see hare not in process have pipped but have to KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED! :)

Looking for your input- thanks!

No incubator expert here but my gut says stay with what is working for you in your situation. I put my Rcom20 on the turkey setting and let it go...45% them up to 65% for hatch and I have 11 out of 13 already hatched so based on my very limited knowledge I think that's pretty decent.

If you know how to candle then you basically just monitor the size of the air cell or if you have a kitchen scale you can weigh the eggs. I use the weight method, the eggs need to lose a certain amount of weight during the incubation period. A quick search here can answer the weight question with great detail. (My gut says 14% but I could be way off.) If they run a little heavy reduce the water and if they run a little light then increase the humidity.

Clear as fog, right?

Keep things as simple as you can to get the hatches you want. More tinkering is not always better when it comes to mother nature.
