Incubating just laid eggs. Yes or no?

Ooh interesting. Thanks for posting your results hoping some more members will post theirs from just laid eggs as nothing can be proven from just a few eggs

It is certainly something I am going to test next spring when I start incubating again.. I didn't really think about it until I saw your thread. I had marked all the eggs with date they were laid because I was hatching for someone else and she wanted just the EE eggs.. I didn't want to store them longer than 7 days so I made sure I marked them.

In looking back I think all the ones that were stored for 3-4 days were the ones that hatched out first and were the strongest, but again, I will have to test it again come spring.

That's great thank you. Will be very interested in how things go if I can get a few more people interested in the spring time just make those extra notes. I will definatly be doing some test runs with my eggs to see the out come.

I put 4 seramas in 3 of them being stored, again. lol and i put 17 of my LF in and only one not stored. it just worked out that way. so far all of my eggs that were not stored have died but one that died mid-term was from elect. outage.

I'm brand new to chickens and have 0 knowledge of incubating. How long can you store the eggs and how do you store them?

Hi there @mossyroo Eggs are usually best stored for upto a week to get good viability from them. This isn't gospel though people have still had good results from eggs that have been stored longer. Some also store their eggs in the refrigerator bring them out to get them upto room temp before setting them in the incubator. I Like to store at room temp in egg cartons with the pointy end down and fat end up. Turning them about three times per day while they are being stored. The easiest way to do this is to prop one end of the egg carton up so the whole carton is on an angle. Then when it's time to turn again put that end down and prop the other end up.
